Dial- up
Just wanted to say... I feel sorry for all of you on dial up.
I've gone from an 8Mb broadband connection to a really really bad dial-up connection, and its soul destroying.
The game iv come to know and love has become slow, laggy and dull.... new maps take up to 2 hours to dowload... logging into a map iv already been to takes an average of 5 minutes
so.. i can no longer make my money running people places. Doing missions with other "real" people just doesnt happen anymore.
Cant wait till im back on bradband!
Sorry, this is just a random topic, coz i feel like shit and want to kill something ingame... but cant
Lou

I know the feeling, my internet speed was "shaped" or cut down after I reached my download limit, it was HELL for a week.

I once tried to do the Dragon's Lair bonus and it turned out one of our monks had dial-up. He litteraly didn't load til we were already in the second or third section and since he wanted to cap the monk elite (that's in the first section) he promptly quit. And then we realised our second monk was a Korean 55 that spoken broken incomprehensible English and we were quite screwed

I've been playing on 28k since release. It really isn't so bad. In fact, I hear broadband users complaining about lag as much as I do. Yeah, whenever a large patch comes, it takes a little bit of time to download. I usually just let my computer sit at the log in screen and download while I am off doing something else. Then when I come back, I load quick into areas.
I used to have cable, but moved to a rural area with no broadband. The phone lines in the area are so old, they don't even support 56k. I was really pissed at first, but I got used to it. Can't wait to move into a new apartment in the near future and get back on high speed though.

I've been stuck on dialup since I bought GW over a year ago. It is quite a pain, especially with all of the downloads that have taken place this summer. There were nights were I logged on and allowed the downloads to take place over the night so I could play in the morning. When we went on vacation for a couple of days I logged on right before leaving so I would be updated when I got home. Someday my rural county will get high speed, oh I dream of the day.

My friend has been playing on dial-up since the game came out.
His only complaint is the downloads, but he still joins parties and pvp's. It really does run slick on a slow connection.
And before I got high speed I was using the dish for playing GW. There was lag, but it was playable even though there was latency and my uploading speed was 2k ( thats 54k less than 56k )
But I played solo for that time. lol

As you read this thread you should be wondering about how lucky you are that you have broadband.... you complain about error7s and lag... what if the lag happened to you 24/7?... no matter how bad it is there is always someone who has it worst... and if you have 56k connection then i just feel bad for your ass... and i would like to say come on!!.... the cheapest broadband is like 15 bucks a month and if you still pay 20 bucks a month for dialup... you are getting ripped more than ordering a half eaten sandwich from the deli...

Me update come in few seconds and area what I already have visited load nearly instantly. It is ok that you have Dial Up but people not like when you always download 5 min eg in Fort Aspenwood mission.

I really feel your pain ... when I had Dial-Up it took about 3 hours just to download a new patch/update >< .. but well... I thought this was funny so I'll post it here a guy on ts asked "when are we going to start the mish?" then another guy says "be patient."The other person asked "what's patience?" Then another guy says "Something you learn from Dial-Up." Heh .

I've been playing on dial-up since the beginning as no high speed was offered in the area here.
This game typically runs pretty well. Right after patches, you might have some crappy loads, and the events can really suck to load the first time. (God I've hated these weekend events for that reason) But, for the most part everything is really smooth except those missions with 2 full 8 man teams (Vizuna). Haven't even tried much PVP as a result of the lag I see there.
That said, DSL is now being offered, and we're just waiting for it to be hooked up in a week. Too bad it's that time of year I don't get on the computer much...

I went from a T3 line to dial up over the summer and am now back on my T3 line. Yes loads times can take a while. After that big Nightfall update it took me 2 hours to load Random Arenas. But other then that and the occasionally lag, it really ran very smothly as long as you kept graphic settings to a miniumum and kept AIM, TS, and windows auto updater off.
I could even run ABs with no trouble (usually).

I had dial up when the game first came out. Ya it took longer to load but i could still do missios with people. They just had to wait a little longer for me to load. I just put the graphics on the lowest setting and it seemed to decrease any occasional lag i got. It didnt seem to be a problem. Last summer i switched to broadband, now i have no idea how i survived on Dial up but really it wasnt too bad. You get used to the load times and find something else to do while GW loads.

I was on a dial-up connection the entire life of Prophecies and most of Factions. You're exaggerating the situation greatly. >.> The game is very playable on dial-up, but problems begin to arise when the downloads are 100mb+.

yeah im stuck on dial-up since we cant dsl and comcast is a rip-off. The game still runs good on my computer, i can run the 2nd highest graphics with no problem. Theres a few lag spikes here an there but you get used to it. I also rarely get er7s too unlike my friends who do have broadband.

I have dial-up, and the game plays fine for me. The only time it annoys me is when there's a big download. All these useless "special events" really tick me off. Taking forever to load something I have absolutely NO interest in doing is irritating, but you learn to live with it.
Whenever I map to another town it usually takes a minute or so to load. It's funny getting invites for my monk even before she pops up on the screen.
The only time I lag on missions is once in a great while when playing Factions, but luckily Factions sucks so I hardly ever play it.
